More Brilliant News

Warton Nethersole's C of E Primary, winners of our Small Schools Primary 7 a side competition represented us so successfully that they won the Midland area finals on Saturday 10th March and will go to the national finals in Watford on 19th May. Superb!!!

Brilliant News!!

I had the following email from Paul Turrell at Straford Acadamy earlier in the week "Just thought you would like to know my under 13 girls have reached the ESFA National Cup Final today. We played St Bedes from Blackburn who were defending champions and we beat them 5-1 at Stratford Town FC. A great achievement I am sure you will agree!!!"  A great achievement indeed! Well done from all of us!! And good luck in Chesterfield on Monday 21st May.

Secondary Cup Finals

We are now into the second half of the season and all finalists in the cup competitions are known. Congratulations to Stratford Academy  and Bilton Academy, each having booked their places in three of this year's finals. Equally to Rugby and District with eight of their schools through to the finals. It is important that all host schools need to discuss all details of the final that they are organising, with me, at home on the telephone more than a week before the final. Finals which have not followed this process will not be approved and will have to be re-arranged. Venues and dates will be on a first come, first served basis if there is a geographical or date clash.

No finals will be permitted on Monday 14th May End of Season Date is 19th May

Under 12 ESFA 5-a-side Regional Finals

Regional finals for this competition were played at the Coventry Sports Connexion on 7th February with some thirty boys and girls teams from all over the midlands area taking part. Disappointingly, the only representatives from Warwickshire  were Twycross House Boys and Nicholas Chamberlaine Girls, winners of the Nuneaton district competitions; it would appear that no other districts have a 5-a-side competition at this age group.Twycross House are a very small school and found the competition fierce, but Nicholas Chamberlaine, having already beaten their opponents prior to the final, looked likely to be the tournament winners. It was not to be and Windsor High School just edged the final 2 - 1 to go to the national finals in Derby as the winners.

U15 Girls England Trials

Trials have been very successful despite a smaller number of nominations than expected. Please be aware that there is an England Academy side and this should not be confused with the ESFA team when it comes to future nominations. Nominations can only come from yourselves to WCSFA for any representative England team at any age group.

County Primary Finals

On a bright, but cold Friday afternoon and bright and frosty Saurday morning, the Small Schools and Girls county finals were played. My thanks to Wolston St Margarets for hosting the Small Schools, what a lovely venue and helpful staff. Equal thanks to the staff and parents at All Saints in Warwick for their hospitality in the Girls finals; both were superb events and both highlighted all that is best in our national game. The plot could not have been better written or engineered, because, with the last game of each tournament, the host team could have taken the title. There the fairytale ended and their opponents won the title in both cases and nail biting it was!. Congratulations to Warton Nethersole's C of E Primary, representing North Warwickshire, who go on to the regional finals as county Smalll Schools champions on March 10th in Nottingham. Equally to The Paddox from Rugby, who go on to represent us in the Girls regional finals, also in Nottingham, the following Saturday.

Monday 30th brought yet another cold but sunny day for the School Teams finals; yet again it went right down to the wire with the last match deciding the winner. As in the previous two finals, the sportsmanship was of the highest order, from both the players and the spectators and our hosts, Lapworth C of E,  provided us with a super venue and excellent organisation. This time our winners were Binley Woods and they go to the regional finals on 17th March at Nottingham University.

Commiserations to All Saints, twice the potential winners in both the Girls and School Teams finals, but never to take the title; however, they are to be congratulated as the most successful school in the county. Congratulations to Rugby and District who produced two of our three regional finalsts.

Water Orton Primary will be the North Warwickshire and County representatives in the Inter District Regional Finals on 10th March.

The Spec Savers Trophy was jointly awarded to two schools, who remain anonymous, for eventually finding the trophies gathering dust in their display cabinets!

Certificate of Merit to Pete Alty for all of his support and for saying nice things about me in public, twice!
